The North Coast 500

Post 1

Journey number one – The North Coast 500, started (as things often do), with a  discussion in a pub and some wine. It would be correct to say that we didn’t look at the website northcoast500.com until after we had committed to the ride, nor did we, (me), look at the route profile as featured neatly on Strava by Mark Beaumont until about a month before the departure date, that being tomorrow! Excitement and trepidation jointly combine to bring a heightened sense of what the next 9 days may bring.  Dates are 13th – 23rd. Route to Inverness via the very lovely Caledonian Sleeper.  The trusty bike is undergoing some last minute tweaks (new chain and a good clean) and then we are off. Myra, my partner in crime, has prepared a wonderful schedule that allows us to take in many of the recommended sights along the route without destroying ourselves totally in the first few days. Jeeves, my long suffering husband, is wondering how many phone calls he is going to get of the “how to?” nature so has given me a crash course in bike maintenance, – but then its only a bike, – just how complicated can it be?

This section of the blog is the story of our expedition complete with photos and adventures. Its going to be fun!
